Description

Song for voice and piano with words by James Joyce, transcribed and edited by Liz Lane.

Vocal range: d’ to a”

Lean out of the Window was composed in 1928. It is one of several settings by Muriel Herbert of poems by James Joyce. While on her honeymoon in Paris in that same year, Herbert was introduced to Joyce, and at his request performed two of her settings for him, this being one of them. When the performance was over, Joyce asked her to repeat the song.

Lean out of the Window is here published for the first time.
