Description
Partsong for SATB with optional piano
‘Good Morrow’ is the setting of a poem by George Gascoigne (1539-1578), which Elgar wrote at the request of Sir Henry Walford Davies for a carol to celebrate King George V’s recovery from major illness in the autumn of 1929. On 9 December Elgar himself conducted the performance given at Windsor, which was also broadcast. For this work, Elgar made use of a hymn-tune he had composed in his youth, entitled ‘Praise ye the Lord on every height’.
